Advising Noncitizen Clients About Immigration Consequences


Description

This one-hour CLE will provide practical information about criminal defense attorney obligations to advise noncitizen defendants about immigration consequences. It will cover the process to seek advice on immigration consequences and the information that is needed, as well as why that information is necessary for a thorough analysis. It will also cover the basics of immigration law including the definition of "conviction" and the criminal grounds of removability. Finally, it will address the current immigration enforcement climate and additional challenges that may impact defense attorneys as enforcement efforts among federal and state authorities increase.
